Titles: 200 Allowed, 80 Recommended

Amazon caps most category titles at 200 characters and actively suppresses listings that exceed the category limit — but mobile search results show roughly the first 80. Lead with brand, product type, and the key attribute buyers filter by (size, count, material); push secondary keywords to bullets and backend terms.

Listing Copy Tips

  • One benefit per bullet, starting with the takeaway in caps or title case: “EASY CLEANUP – dishwasher-safe parts…”.
  • No promo language. “Best seller”, “#1”, and pricing claims in titles violate Amazon's style rules.
  • Backend search terms are bytes, not words: skip commas, don't repeat words already in the title, and stay under 250 bytes or the whole field is ignored.
  • Check your category's style guide — some categories cap titles at 80 or 150 characters.

What happens if my title exceeds the limit?

The listing can be search-suppressed — it exists but stops appearing in results until the title is shortened. Count before you publish.

Do backend search terms need to be complete sentences?

No. Amazon's backend search terms field works best as a simple list of space-separated keywords — no commas, and no repeating words already in your title or bullets. Stay under the 250-byte limit or the entire field may be ignored.
